To help steer your question or comment, below is an outline of who is covering what on Election Day.
Brian Foley:
1) Accepated campaign contribution from developers with business before the board, as did many councilman. So much for reform.
2) Ignored our Councilman and community with regards to the Tallgrass PDD (planned development district). He has destroyed our community with this high density re-zoning.
3) Allowed the PDD town misrepresent the tax benefits to the taxpayers in the Shoreham Wading River School district. The 10 million dollar one time donation to the school district promised to the community has disappeared as ecconomically un-viable while the PDD has grown in size. Promised tax benefits annualy have also dropped like a stone!!
4) Accepetd the developers traffic study rather than a conflicting independen t study commission through the state by Senator Lavalle.
I am a non politically active nobody. I am tired of being lied to and misrepesented. You have been warned, your communty may be next!!!
One follow on comment, I have seen a lot of town board meetings on chanel 18. I have seen meetings both before and after the meeting when the approval of the tallgrass PDD was on the agenda. This particular has never made TV. The hundreds from the community opposed to the PDD, the speakers opposed to the PDD, and the supporters paid for by the developer, many of whom did not speak English would be an enlightening thing for all citizens to see. So much for freedom of the press!!!
I must say that news 12 is reflecting the Mainstream media on coverage. Also Newsday is doing the same thing. FYI there is someone else running for Suffolk County Executive: Estelle Edwards. Maybe you didn’t notice her on the ballot? or were you overlooking that on purpose? Another thing that ticks voters off: MEDIA BIAS.

On PDD, isn’t it nice that Brookhaven Town paid for a beautiful brochure trifold glossy mailing, urging its citizens to vote yes on PDD? That’s lovely. I oppose this tax, yet I have to pay for propoganda to be sent to all residents urging voters to vote yes. Ah only in NY and only in America. Ever wonder who this will really benefit? The people living directly next door to these areas, not the people who say, live in Selden, Port Jeff, Patchogue etc. One might think that this really benefits the rich homes if they actually thought about it. Hmmmm
How disgusting!
Just heard on your poll, that 25% of the repsondents (these would be folks with a computer and other technology and obvisoulsy “plugged in”) have decided NOT to VOTE?
Are you kidding? Get your lazy ass into the car and stop bitchin’. This is the reason this area is so hosed up and you can see Brian X. Foley and the Highway guy actually compaigning during their office tenure!
Check the font size and message here? http://www.Broohaven.org
Brian X. Foley’s town? Newspaper and Marketing 101 will tell you what goes in the upper left corner and in large print?
By NOT voting yhou are in fact voting in absencia a deferring YOUR rights to the fanatics that clearly do go out and vote on their agenda items.
25% – wow! I hope you are as silent on the results? Siletnly write that fall REAL ESTATE TAX due right now at Christmas time!!!!!
NICE!
Let’s see: we have two big problems on Long Island: affordable housing, and high taxes. But then again, the high taxes are caused by the high cost of employees for schools and government, which is caused by the shortage of affordable housing. So maybe we only have one problem.
We need to end acre zoning, and we need to aggressively drive down the cost of living by promoting high-density and quarter-acre zoning. Instead, we see Brookhaven proposition three, to further raise taxes to pay for development rights on land in order to…. make sure nobody can live on it! People have to live somewhere, though, and we need employees for schools and hospitals.
In reply to Spencer, Affordable housing? we live in paradise. Are you kidding me? We pay high taxes so our children can have the opportunity to have one of the highest ranked educations in america. High cost of employees for schools?Quality education comes at a price. Quality special education comes at even a higher price. A safe neighborhood, priceless.
We live here because we have the best of everything within a 100 mile radius. This too comes at a price. One thing we do not need is anyone chopping up our land parcels, just to accomodate the people who can not afford to live in housing that is suitable for the size of their family. The shortage is not the lack of affordable housing, have you driven around town in Nassau or Suffolk counties lately? Brookhaven wants to preserve whatever we have left, why shouldn’t they? We do not need any more developments, we need space to allow our children and grandchildren to grow. If you want to live like your in the city I suggest you move there. Taxes are lower and you can squeeze as many as you can into one room for the same money. Check out the prices of private schools for your kids, the money you save in your taxes will now be going for tuition. Last I checked a 3 bedroom home in a neighborhood that doesn’t have a drug dealer on every corner is going for around 750,000.00. That is the starting price. The beauty of living on Long Island is our pine barrens, our beaches, our parks. The wide open space along our parkways, super highways and the expressway. Our children want to stay here and raise their children here. What we do need, real cost of living raises, tax breaks for low to middle income families. Incentives for residents who spend their money locally, to keep the money where it needs to be, on long island. Taxes need to be raised, starting with the many large corporations here on LI, as well as our local and state government officials. They need to step up to the plate, and stop charging us for their mistakes, and start paying us back for affording them to drive around in company vehicles, have expense accounts, 6 weeks of paid vacation time and bonuses for just showing up. Most of these perks cost more money then the average person on long island makes in a year. How our tax dollars are spent is the problem. I could go on, but I need to put my babies to sleep. They have school tomorrow. Let’s start taking care of business before it is too late.
